Organic Whey Protein
Whey protein has been a sensation in the bodybuilding community for quite sometime now. It’s not just bodybuilders that rave about it, but also individuals who only perform normal levels of physical activity. A lot of this has to do with the benefits that whey protein provides to the body. However, a new wave of health conscious buyers have hit the market that are wanting gluten free, non-GMO, and non-chemically enhanced whey protein. So a product called “organic whey protein” was developed to meet this growing consumer demographic.
How is Organic Whey Protein Made
The majority of whey protein comes from a process that does not meet the legal definitions of “organic.” The process to create whey protein involves separating whey liquid from curds in milk that has come from a cow. So in order for the protein to be labeled organic, the cow could not have been given any kind of shots, hormones, or have been fed a food source that came from a GMO produced crop. This limits the pool of choices where you can get “organic” milk from quite significantly, as most dairy farms do not abide by these organic requirements.
The Difference Between Organic and Regular Whey Protein
Vegan and vegetarian bodybuilders who want organic whey protein have begun to have more options. One must wonder if there is a difference between organic whey protein and regular whey protein.
When it comes to actual physical performance and muscle development between regular and organic whey protein, there is very little difference between the two. Studies seem to show that lean muscle and strength will be built at the same rate whether the protein that is consumed is organic or not.
The same can be said with other benefits such as:

None of these are really affected by whether one is taking organic whey protein or not.
What Are the Benefits of Organic Whey Protein
From a pure health standpoint, it would seem from empirical testimonies and some research that organic whey protein does offer benefits that non-organic whey protein does not.
For example, because organic whey protein comes from grass fed cows, it has been shown that they have healthier saturated fatty acids than non-organic whey protein that comes from GMO fed cows. It has also been discovered that organic whey protein has healthier omega-3 & 6 fatty acids, which is known to help the body's immunity and basic functions perform better.
Also, since there is much less lactose in the milk from grass fed cows, organic whey protein has been shown to help people who are lactose intolerant. In fact, it has been widely encouraged by health professionals that people who are sensitive to lactose should consider an organic form of whey protein in order to reduce the possible side effects of lactose on their bodies systems.
