Whey Protein Flavors

The first step regarding how to use whey protein is figuring out which flavor to use. Everybody has their own favorite flavor.

The most popular flavors for whey protein are:

  • Chocolate
  • Vanilla
  • Strawberry

Making Your Whey Protein Shake

With the flavor decided, and the container in hand, find the scoop that is (typically) included. One scoop is ordinarily considered a serving. Take one of those scoops (or what the instructions say is a serving) and place it in a bottle or blender.

Next, add water or milk to the powder. If watching calorie intake, water is recommended over milk.

Note: never mix your whey protein with juice. Whey protein has lactose (milk) in it, and mixing it with juice will probably yield a very unpleasant taste experience!

After adding a serving of the protein power and choice of liquid, shake it or blend it quickly.

Once mixed, it is recommended that the shake be consumed as quickly as possible in order to avoid clumping and losing the smooth texture.

When Should One Take Whey Protein?

The specific timing of when an individual takes whey protein is not going to make a huge difference on the physiology of their body. Just be sure to take it at least once every 24-hours. That being said, there is some research that points out a couple of benefits of strategically taking whey protein before and after workouts. For timing purposes on how to take whey protein, it is suggested that an individual drink a shake one hour before a workout to begin getting their muscles ready for the physical activity they are about to perform. This is to help stimulate one's metabolism and prep their muscles so that they will be near their maximum strength level during their workout. Then, after completing a workout, it is recommended to take another shake (or dose) 1 to 2 hours afterwords to help replenish the nutrients expended by the body's muscles as a result of physical activity.

Using Whey Protein Without Working Out

An individual doesn't have to be a bodybuilder to reap the benefits of this wonderful supplement. It is suggested to take the daily-recommended dose of whey protein as specified by a doctor or other healthcare professional. Doing so will aid in muscle development and hormonal balance in one's body. This, in turn, will boost an individual's metabolism so that they will be able to produce natural energy and leave them feeling better throughout the day.
