Optimum-C is a balanced amino acid formula that combines the excitatory effects of phenylalanine and the inhibitory effects of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) and theanine. As the precursor to a number of neurotransmitters, including PEA, dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine, DL-phenylalanine can be used to support multiple excitatory neurotransmitters. The amino acid theanine has been widely studied for its ability to produce a calming effect and prevent over-stimulation. 5-HTP is included to enhance the synthesis of serotonin.
