However, there are some arguments among scientists as to what the proper dosage amount equals. For example, most Melatonin supplements will provide you with a 3 to 5 milligram pill or tablet. Certain scientists argue that you really only need a 0.1 to a 0.5 milligram dosage amount, and anything else too excessive. Despite the controversy, 3 to 5 milligrams is still considered a safe dosage.
When Should You Take Melatonin?
When taking a supplement you also need to look at when and how you take it. For instance, Melatonin is a supplement that should only be taken right before you are ready to fall asleep. Since it is a sleep aid it should not be taken within 4 hours of operating machinery or driving. It is safe to be taken in proper small dosages for either a short or long period of time and it should always be taken orally by either a tablet or pill. Just make sure you take the proper amount according to the brand you have purchased and you are not taking more is stated on the bottle. While Melatonin is a natural and virtually risk free supplement, it still does carry the risk of certain side effects. Melatonin is a tremendously effective supplement.
