Dr. Perlmutter's, Probiotics 90 Capsules

Dr. Perlmutter’s Probiotics is a combination of viable intestinal microorganisms in a neutral base of maltodextrin. Each capsule is enteric coated to release the active microorganisms directly into the intestinal tract.

Probiotics is live bacteria necessary to reduce the growth of harmful bacteria in the gut. Bad bacteria can lead to gastrointestinal and other health problems such as ulcers, urinary tract infections, inflammatory bowel disease and vaginal yeast infections, just to name a few.

Probiotics are especially important if you are taking antibiotics, as the antibiotics wipe out both the good and bad bacteria.

The active cultures lactobacillus acidophilus and lactobacillus rhamnosus found in Dr. Perlmutter’s Probiotics are known to enhance immune function by improving digestion and nutrient absorption.

Seventy percent of our immune function takes place in the gut, probiotics promote the integrity of the nutrients that must be absorbed through the small intestine into the body, while discouraging unfriendly organisms. In order to keep these bacteria alive, this product should be refrigerated, however, the live strain should be able to survive up to a couple of weeks without loosing its probiotic boost.

Studies have indicated that probiotics are very important for children and infants too, whose immune systems are still developing. One study suggests that pregnant and nursing women who take probiotic supplements during the last few weeks of pregnancy prior to giving birth and continue to take the supplement for at least six months following birth may lower their child’s incidence of developing allergies by half, compared to those who didn’t receive probiotics.
