Each Capsule contains 625 mg of L-Lysine Monohydrochloride which provides 500 mg of L-Lysine, an essential amino acid.  Amino acids are the building blocks of protein.

L-lysine is an essential amino acid, meaning it cannot be synthesized in the body. Vegetarians can be deficient in lysine because, while meat, poultry, and milk are rich sources of lysine, proteins in grains and cereals are typically low in lysine. Of the many biological functions requiring lysine, some notable applications include synthesis of connective tissues such as bone, skin, collagen, and elastin; synthesis of carnitine and the resultant conversion of fatty acids to energy; support for healthy growth and development in children; and maintenance of healthy immune function, particularly with regard to antiviral activity.

L-lysine has been most extensively researched for prevention or management of Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections. Some individuals with Herpes simplex infection appear to be sensitive to the lysine/arginine ratio in their tissues, with a decrease in this ratio resulting in skin eruptions. L-lysine appears to be beneficial in suppressing Herpes simplex replication by competing with arginine for absorption in the intestines, reabsorption in the renal tubules, and transport into cells. In addition, lysine helps breakdown arginine by inducing the enzyme arginase.
