How To Quickly and Naturally Grow Your Hair

Ask anyone who's ever tried to grow their hair and they'll tell you it's a long process.  Sure, there are alternatives like hair extensions and wigs, but they don't compare to having your own hair. There is no overnight remedy for getting long and luscious locks but there are several things you can do to speed it up. As I continue on my quest for longer hair I thought I should share my tips with you. Some of them seem crazy, but if you're like me you'll do whatever it takes to speed up the process. I'll tell you what actually works and why it works. Let's get to it!

Here are my top five recommendations for growing out your hair:

1. Scalp Treatments
Your hair starts growing from your scalp - so give it some attention! You can use store bought formulas or whip up your own using coconut oil, jojoba oil or olive oil. Just heat it up in the microwave or on the stove and apply thoroughly from your roots to your ends. Rinse off after 15 minutes. Take a look in the mirror and see how much shinier and softer it is after one application.

2. Comb Often but with Caution
Combing your hair not only detangles it but also stimulates the hair follicle and energizes it for growth. Be sure to gently brush your hair every morning and night. I suggest not combing or brushing your hair when wet, as this is the most vulnerable time for your hair to break off. If you absolutely have to comb it when wet make sure you're using a wide-tooth comb.

3. Vitamins, Vitamins, Vitamins!
Did you know that what you put in your body actually makes a difference? Loading up on vitamin-rich foods like fish, eggs, poultry, vegetables and quinoa will not only make your hair grow faster and thicker, but will make your skin glow and will help trim a few extra pounds. It's a win-win-win! You can also take vitamin supplements to speed up hair growth. I recommend Fish Oil, Vitamin D3, Biotin and Vitamin B.

4.  Rinse with Apple Cider Vinegar
I know I'm starting to sound crazy but bear with me! I tried this a while back and was totally impressed with the results. Basically, all you do is shampoo like normal, then   apply Apple Cider Vinegar from your roots to your ends. Leave it on for a few minutes (perfect time to shave those legs) and rinse. You're hair will look instantly stronger, shinier and healthier.

5. Space Out Your Washes
This is the hardest one for me. I'll apply whatever random oil to my hair, but when it comes to not shampooing everyday, I really have to work at it! My hair is naturally curly and kinks really easy - not to mention my insane bed head each morning. But, if you can (yes - you can) DO NOT wash your hair everyday. There is nothing better for your hair than allowing it to breathe and produce it's own oils over the course of two to three days. Aim to wash your hair about two or three times a week and play around with some fun hair styles for the in-between days. My favorite is a loose side french braid or a top-knot messy bun on top of my head. Throw on some big hoops or cute earrings for an instantly dressy look. BONUS: skipping washing your hair every day means no blow drying... which means less damage and a lot of extra time for you!
