Homocysteine Guard

Homocysteine is perhaps the most overlooked factor that people consider when assessing their risk for heart disease. Homocysteine, a toxic by-product of amino acid metabolism, can contribute to the development of heart disease when blood levels are elevated. Though few people get their homocysteine levels checked, recent studies have shown that healthy levels can predict survival from heart attack and stroke. Risk factors include, but are not limited to, smoking, obesity and genetic flaws in governing homocysteine metabolism. Folic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 are all necessary for the support of healthy homocysteine levels.
