Cal Apatite® - It Takes More Than Calcium Alone to Prevent Osteoporosis!
Cal Apatite is Comprehensive Bone Nourishment For Patients Of All Ages How you will benefit from Cal Apatite®:
The Cal Apatite family of products contains pure MCHC - comprehensive bone nourishment. MCHC supplies bioavailable calcium, which plays a significant role in maximizing peak bone mass and reducing the rate of bone loss or bone thinning. But MCHC is much more than a calcium supplement. In addition to calcium, properly processed MCHC contains organic factors that include growth factors, collagen protein, and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), as well as phosphorus, magnesium, flouride, zinc, silica, manganese, and other trace minerals - all in the same physiological proportions found in healthy bones. Excellent Quality, True MCHC All MCHC products are not the same. The source of the bone extract as well as the processing procedures are critical in determining the quality of MCHC. Some sources of MCHC may contain high levels of lead and other contaminants, or be adulterated with cartilage and tendons. Certain processing procedures, such as high-heat and excessive grinding, can result in a product that is nothing more than bone meal. These products often lack the organic factors and proteins, as well as the microcrystalline structure that are found in Cal Apatite and are characteristic of true, excellent quality MCHC. Backed by Research Not only has Cal Apatite been used successfully by doctors worldwide for 15 years, but there is also ample human and animal research that substantiates the effectiveness of MCHC. In fact, several long-term human studies have shown the clinically significant benefits of MCHC supplementation in bone health.* Why Cal Apatite is the Choice of Informed HealthCare Professionals: Bioavailable Calcium - MCHC is an excellent source of bioavailable calcium in a natural microcrystalline structure that provides for excellent calcium absorption.* This is especially important for older individuals who often experience reduced intestinal absorption of calcium. Intact Organic Fraction - Approximately 22%-28% of MCHC is comprised of protein and organic factors, which include:
Many products claiming to be MCHC are processed in a manner that does not preserve the delicate organic fraction. When MCHC is subjected to heat greater than 650oC (ashing) this fraction can be completely destroyed, thereby reducing the product's effectiveness. This was highlighted in a study that compared hydroxyapatite-containing compounds with and without the organic fraction present.* The study showed that the removal of the organic fraction by ashing reduced the effectiveness of the resulting product. Macrominerals - In addition to calcium, the MCHC in Cal Apatite provides a wide complement of minerals that are important for healthy bone formation and metabolism including phosphorus, magnesium, and others. Trace Minerals - There is also a significant quantity of a broad spectrum of trace and ultra trace minerals in the balanced ratios naturally occurring in bone. These include boron, flourine, selenium, iron, copper, manganese, zinc, iodine, molybdenum, vanadium, chromium, and more. Microcrystalline Structure - The microcrystalline structure of properly processed MCHC may help facilitate mineral absorption.* Cal Apatite provides MCHC in the form of microscopic crystals. The inherent benefit associated with these crystals is the large surface area from which the minerals are released in the gut, providing excellent availability for absorption. Purity and Extraordinary Quality Just because a product claims to be MCHC, it isn't necessarily the same as Cal Apatite. The sources of the bone concentrate as well as the processing procedures are of utmost importance in determining the quality of MCHC. Metagenics follows these strict guidelines to guarantee that our Cal Apatite products feature only pure, authentic MCHC: Source - The MCHC in Cal Apatite is derived from bone collected from one of the world's cleanest sources - New Zealand's pasture fed cattle raised in a pesticide-free environment. Very close surveillance (since 1989) by the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture, the regulatory authority responsible for the safety and purity of the country's animal source exports, ensures that the animal population remains BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) and scrapie-free. Certificate of Analysis - Verifies the protein and mineral content of the MCHC. Cal Apatite has the same constituent ratios typically found in bone: 22%-28% elemental calcium, and 9%-13% phosphorous, with the remainder comprised primarily of other minerals, including magnesium, boron, copper, zinc, and more. Type I Collagen - The results of a collagen analysis will indicated the purity and non-adulteration of MCHC. Properly processed MCHC should contain approximately 20% collagen, the majority of which should be Type I. Poorly processed bone, such as bone meal, yields a product with only o%-7% Type I collagen. Significant quantities of other types of collagen would indicate that the raw material used to make the MCHC was adulterated with cartilage, tendons, muscle, marrow, or ligaments. The MCHC in Cal Apatite is obtained from the mid-section of the long bones, not the end of bones, to ensure that the product does not contain cartilage or other unwanted components. X-Ray Diffraction Analysis - Confirms the microcrystalline structure of the MCHC in Cal Apatite. Sanitary Certificate of Origin and Health - This certificate is required for import into the U.S. and provides assurance that our MCHC is of the highest quality. Heavy Metal Analysis - Contamination with lead, arsenic, aluminum, mercury, strontium, and other heavy metals is a concern with regard to some forms of calcium supplements, including MCHC. Cal Apatite is regularly assayed for heavy metal contamination by a third party. According to an analysis conducted on 70 brands of calcium supplements sold in the U.S. and Canada, 25% exceeded the FDA's total tolerable daily intake of 6 µg of lead for children age 6 and younger.* In high quality MCHC, lead should not be present at levels higher than 1µg/g of product. Heavy metal analysis of the MCHC contained in Cal Apatite consistently shows lead levels to be well below 1 µg/g, demonstrating its remarkable purity. Cold-Processed - The MCHC in Cal Apatite is cold-processed to preserve its delicate organic factors and proteins which can easily be destroyed by other processing techniques. Cal Apatite is offered in a variety of formulas so that you can address different needs. Three formulas that are the most popular include: Additional formulas in the Cal Apatite® family include: *References available upon request Metagenics Formula Focus
